Self-Portrait I Sculpture
Free-Standing Life Size Sculptural Artwork
Designed & fabricated In-House
Materials: Ceramic, Fabric, Wood, Steel, 3D-Printed Resin, Rope
Dimensions: Approx 6 Feet Tall, 2ft Wide
In this work various different materials, shapes, colors, and textures come together to create a roughly human-sized complex and detailed physical structure mirroring our own expansive self- perceptions of ourselves. This sculpture is meant to be explored fully by walking around it and viewing it from all sides and angles.
Different semi-translucent materials are used as what I call “Objects of Obfuscation”, whose purpose is to obfuscate, or obscure the view to a true inner object or being. In the case of this sculpture the inner ceramic object is representational of the true “inner-being”, while the Objects of Obfuscation are representative of both the walls and layers we metaphorically create around ourselves, knowingly or unknowingly, to shy away from the pure gaze of our outside world; and also the layers of subjective altered-perceptions those in our external world place upon us, again, knowingly or unknowingly.

Natural Simulacra Sculptures
Designed & fabricated In-House
Dimensions: 2x @ 24” x 24” X 12”
- Using upcycled EPS foam originally destined for a landfill, this work examines the concept of simulating elements of nature with a material that is currently destroying it.
“Natural Simulacra I” was created with the intention of simulating elements of nature, i.e. rock, water, with a material that is actively destroying it, namely EPS foam. These conceptual aspects are placed in stark and jarring contrast to each other in order to comment on the irrationality of human thought concerning our environment and future on this planet. The work considers a future where our natural environment is so compromised or otherwise inaccessible that our very ability to view or experience it may only be through various simulations, whether digital or physical.
Agar Agar Diptych
Designed & fabricated In-House
Dimensions: 5ft Tall, 2.5Ft Wide
- This sculpture is a mixed-form artwork combining improvised blind contour engravings with Agar Agar seaweed-based bioplastic shapes/colors and utilitarianly minded structural and lighting elements.
The pigmented bioplastic and engravings create a layered composition whose inspiration comes from an ongoing personal exploration into the relationships, communications, and transmutations that we as a society have with the elements that we deem to be in control of or reigning over us, i.e., religion, god, fame, money, status, etc.
