- Using upcycled EPS foam originally
- destined for a landfill, this
- work examines the concept of
- simulating elements of nature
- with a material that is currently
- destroying it.
“Natural Simulacra I” was
- created with the intention of
- simulating elements of nature,
- i.e. rock, water, with a material
- that is actively destroying it,
- namely EPS foam. These conceptual
- aspects are placed in stark and
- jarring contrast to each other
- in order to comment on the
- irrationality of human thought
- concerning our environment
- and future on this planet.
- The work considers a future
- where our natural environment
- is so compromised or otherwise
- inaccessible that our very ability
- to view or experience it may
- only be through various
- simulations, whether
- digital or physical.
